I hope you can forgive me,
for not knowing you were there.
You'd think I would have felt your
heart hammering in time with mine,
(which was in rhythm with the beating
of the rain against the windshield)
that day the sky should have come crashing down,
but didn't.

I hope you can forgive me,
I must have been distracted by
the feeling of his hand in mine.
I thought that feeling would never last
if I gave in to that other longing,
the one I'd buried deep inside;
(so deep I didn't even stop to see
that I might have been able to hold that same hand, twice...)
but I didn't.

I hope you can forgive me,
for not wanting you that day.
You'd think I would have known that
if I loved him, I'd love you even more;
enough to make up for all that love
I'd given out, but never kept.
(I should have kept enough of it to save us from myself,
but I didn't.)

I hope you can forgive me,
for the life that I'll be living now.
From now on, when I look up
and see the stars, I won't help but think
they should be falling down,
because there should be one more set of eyes
staring up at them from among the others
(and maybe that one extra pair would have shown brightly and stood out).
But there isn't.

I think I kinda like it (and I rarely like my poetry!)

Any comments or criticism would be greatly appreciated. There are some parts I'm not sure about, so I'm interested to see if anyone has anything to contribute to/change about those parts.

Great job. :D

I love how there's that little twist at the end of each verse, with the "but I didn't"s and all that.
